LECTURE
Introduction to Basic Composition
- Focal Point – helps eyes to settle on the important pieces of the design
- Scale & Hierarchy – drawing attention towards and away from certain elements
- Human eye will read left first then see the picture on the right, incorporates how left and right brain works (refer to figure 1.1)
- Balance the elements – each element has a weight to it (the depth and space)
- White space – empty space to balance up the focal point, helps design to breathe
Rule of Thirds
- Process of dividing images into thirds using two horizontal and two vertical lines
- By putting the most important elements on the intersection point it will produce a more natural image
- Using rule of thirds to
- Use composition techniques with what’s naturally pleasing to the eye
- Create harmony between subject and background
- Creatively utilize negative space
Golden Ratio
- Commonly found in nature
- Create harmony and proportion
- Provides sense of artistry
- Useful to determine dimension of layout
- Single shot
- Clean (no other elements of character) or Dirty
- Two shot
- Orientation can vary, both faces must be clearly visible - visual relationship between each other
- Three shot, Four shot and so on
- Crowd Shot
- Over the Shoulder shot
- Hybrid between single and two shot - only focus on one character
- Perspectives from both sides
INSTRUCTION
TASK
We are to choose and identify your collage's design elements to be cut
out and compose it into our own concept & story. From then on we are
supposed to arrange the elements and put it into a design, applying the
principles and concept we learnt during the lecture. Afterwards we are to
take pictures of the 3 designs of we have collaged. Here are the three
final results I have.

FEEDBACK
The feedback I got from Mr Fauhzi is that I did a nice work and should keep Composition #1 for the submission in the future.
