Intro to After Effects

After Effects
  • 2.5D animation software used for animation, visual effects, and motion picture compositing
    • Motion graphics animation works by manipulating vector and rasterized art to create and tell a story
    • Can integrate physical based media as well through photographs and videography
Figure 1.1 After Effects Interface
  • Pre-Compositing first in Adobe Photoshop
    • Transforming still images to moving images
    • All the layers need to be arranged and renamed accordingly so that it will be organize and easy to be animated in After Effects
  • In After Effects
    • Import elements from the Photoshop to After Effects
    • It does not embed its media, it links to it

TASK

We are asked to follow the tutorial video by Sir Fauzi and follow the video with the following criteria;

1. Download the composition below:
https://drive.google.com/file/d/1fePzGWCEqeg2A2rK7VysY0OE3iwtdZKF/view?usp=sharing

2. Import the W9_ANIMATE.psd into Adobe After Effects.

3. Create a composition setting 1080 px (Width) x 1920 px (Height), Duration 15 second

4. Create a keyframe animation to the layers using Position (P), Scale (S) & Masking path.

5. Render output: QuickTime (H.264)

6. Upload your exercise into your YouTube Channel.

7. Update your progress and video to your E-Portfolio blog.

With that, I tried following the demo video given. Unfortunately, the demo video quality is too low and hard to follow so with that, I tried to figure out using a couple Youtube videos.

Process is pretty straightforward,

First I tried to animate the typewriter. Following the video, I use the position and keyframes to mark where it should start and end.

I also selected both keyframes and pressed F9 on my keyboard to add easy-ease to the keyframes so that the animation will run smoother.

I did the same to all of the the layers and followed what sir Fauzi told in the demo video.

Figure 2.4 Sending the Circle texture layer back

For the Circle texture layer, I used the rotation transform tool to create rotation from one keyframe to another.

With that, I tried exporting in Quicktime H.264 from Ae, however, there is a problem where I do not have the option to do so. So I had to go to Media Encoder and export from that Adobe app.

Here is the final result.
