REFLECTION
Experiences
Typography was one of a ride for me. In the beginning it was fun, trying to express words with simple visualization. In the middle, when I learnt that there's so much more to typography, and amongst other assignments from different courses, I am forced into a state of burnt out and was driven into auto pilot. There are lots of things I could improve with my works throughout this course, however I am still pretty satisfied with them. They're not exactly spectacular in any way, but they are still mine and I am still proud of them. I can never feel like these works, or any of my future works, is the best I can do because I will still need to forever learn and improve. What I can surely do instead is to have pride in my work yet still be humble and continue to look forward, looking for room of improvements. From the past 14 weeks I learnt so much from Sir Vinod and Sir Charles as they kept on pushing us and helped us to look for ways to improve our work and it will forever be a memorable experience for me.
Observations
I observed that there are typography in everything. They are so essential and sometimes can be looked over, when in reality minor differences in the typography can affect a lot, design wise and viewer/user experience wise. I find myself looking at designs and learnt to be more observant and critical to the fonts they choose or what kind of typography design they chose. I also find myself to be more attentive to the fonts I choose, as these typefaces may look similar but in detail they will look so different. These sharp eyes observation was first started by the deconstruction task, and since then I never look at fonts the same way ever again.
Findings
I found out that there are a lot of things that account to the whole look of typography. Even a little loose on tracking might break the readability of the text. Or too long of a line length would decrease the eligibility of the text. I am most certain that all of the basics of typography (including the others that I did not mention) would help even in the simplest designs I want to create in the future.
