JOURNAL

Week 1:

Introduction to the module, what we'll be doing for the rest of semester. We were asked to create a group of 5s and design a game. Before that we formulate the Problem Statement. I grouped up with one compsci student and the rest from BDCM. I set up a page on Notion to work together and collaborate there.

Week 2 - 3:

Finalizing the proposal and idea. This took a couple of hours of discussion back and forth with the group and Sir Charles to finally agree to push the boundaries of the game and create it to be interesting enough for people to play and replay.

Week 4 - 7:

Haze. Basically these weeks we were all just doing some design here and there with one of our member finalizing those. There were a lot of assets to work on. During these weeks we started with Exercise 3 too. I personally didn't really touch the character design but I do make suggestions here and there. A lot of environmental assets started with me and michelle then refined by Luisa.

Week 8 - ILW

Week 9:

First playtest by Kian! With whatever assets we have we asked sir Charles to play the game. Unfortunately there was problems so we could not really see how sir charles were doing. He was also doing solo mode which was then ruled out by Kian. Meeting notes here

Week 10-14:

Personally, I did not really do much since most of the designs were done. I quickly finished up the editing of Exercises though, had to ask the rest of the members to hurry up so I can quickly edit those and upload to youtube. Had to update the group google site too. While doing that I also had to create the game document and catch up with everything. In the span of the week (with also the help of some of the group members), we could finish the game document quite thoroughly. Last thing we had to do is to ask sir Charles to playtest last time. During these weeks Kian did a playtest on his friends too and we gained a couple feedback from them but generally they were all positive. On the last week I did mostly review all of the things for submissions such as finishing the google site, game docs and created the presentation deck too.

REFLECTION

Learnt it the hard way from this group project that, one, group project is a pain in the butt, two, TWO WAY communication is important, and lastly, timing is everything. Leading a group work is never easy, some group members are always more vocal than others while some can just stay as passive as they can be. However, I am still glad with the group I got to work with, somehow we could still manage to work together albeit not meeting online for quite some time. I am also glad that we were able to come up with a really funny idea with an ok execution be it a one man show as it was only kian, a little bit of hansel, doing the coding. But alas, in whatever way i try to help by editing the videos for exercises, keeping meeting notes and other notes so we do not stray too far from the timeline given.
