Task 1
TASK 1
For our first task, Mr Razif gave a briefing that we'll be continuing our
previous project from App Design Class. In the previous project, I took on the
project to revamp the looks and added several new functionality from the XXI
App (an Indonesian cinema app, think about TGV or other similar Apps).
The final result of said project can be viewed below.
(Depending on your internet speed, due to the huge size of the pictures
provided below, loading time for each page may take a while)
Our goal for the first task is to :
- document the issues, problems, difficulties and,
- propose solutions to improve the mobile app design
So, to the review we go.
Here are some of the things I find in my design that could be improved
on.
#1
Before
In the first page I could find a couple of issues with the design. First is
being the awkward radius of the cards, second being the top of the page
turning a bit too full due to the location and the button for my account page.
This first fix is related to the second page as I find the profile section a
bit too cluttered with the welcome back and other information.
To tackle these, here's what I propose :
1. Creating a taskbar (I avoided this
last semester to give a more seamless look however I realized it did not
really work and created too much of a clutter on the top right of the screen)
- This includes a
visual cue for the users to understand which button is being pressed currently
- Includes
direct connection to important pages (also indirectly removing the clutter in the account page by removing the
button for the tickets section)
2. Reducing corner radius of the cards to
8 instead of 15

#2
Before
Small issue here, the seats are not too aligned to each other. The layout is
okay however I can nitpick a lot of things are not aligned well. I have to
keep in mind that I should be more meticulous when working on apps especially
where everything is seen on a smaller screen. This is a simple fix.
After
Changes :
1. Neater layout of seats and alphabet
2. Adjusting size of the seat icon
#3
Before
In this page, I realized it lacks the visual information of which of the
options were chosen. Some of the icons are also not align. This is also
another simple fix.
After
Changes :
1. Visual cue of chosen option
2. Tidying the
icon position
#4
Before
Again, a lot of the things are not aligned, awkward spacing between the
information. It has several repetition of information too which I find a bit
redundant.
Here's what I propose :
1.
Removing the repetition of the information, instead adding a picture/poster of the movie (another visual element) to
show the right movie ticket chosen
2. Tidying up the spacing of the
information in the cards
After
#5
Before
Again with the inconsistency. Especially in the font size and spacings.
Another thing is that this page lacks the interactivity.
For this, I propose :
1. Adding an overlay of QR for the
cashier so the prize can actually be redeemed.
2. Adjusting font sizes and
spacing.
After
#6
Finally. The lack of a better animation for these pages. However, Figma
could not really do the animation I envisioned therefore I have to try to
just explain it in words. I only wanted for the green bar to move when
choosing in between the sections, and the pictures and information would
just fade into each other.

REFLECTION
This was a fun task. Nitpicking your own work sure does hit your ego but I feel like as a designer we can never have enough time when working on projects, therefore there is ALWAYS something to improve on. The previous App Design Class was way too short to develop a full app and that is the sole reason why I could pick and choose the faulties I found all along the way after the class has passed. I also felt like there are probably more I can improve on but for now I am very satisfied with what I came up with in such short timeframe. This task also reminds me to always be very cautious and meticulous (the amount of tidying and cleaning up, organizing information is RIDICULOUS). Overall, I am pretty satisfied with whatever improvement I came up with without altering too much from the previous application.
