PROGRESS
Week 1 : We were introduced to the class, had an overview of MIB and the semester’s project. We were then asked to form groups and choose a topic from the options available, which we finally chose to work with UWB. Mr Mike also reviewed Empathy and Design Thinking to help us proceed with our next week’s expected progression. This was especially helpful throughout the week; when we had to ideate the products on our own. This Design Thinking is also helpful for the future when I have to do projects even in individual ones.
Week 2 : This week we continued our contextual research and we were asked to ideate more on the product design due to the fact that on the mechanical device, there is not much out there in the internet that would actually help the patient or the fall risk person to be able to stand up after a fall. We came up with several ideas and continued to do so. One thing I notice is we probably need to set up a zoom meeting for discussion, together with students from UWB. For the lecture this week, we were taught on how to create personas. This will be very useful to help us focus on certain target audiences so the scope of our target won’t be too spread out. We were encouraged to confirm 3 personas to represent the target market.
Week 3 : Based on the online video lecture given, we were tasked to create user personas. I created 1 of them and tried to imagine what kind of person this would be if they were to need a medical alert device. I tried to create a very unique persona with details that set them apart from the rest. The current presented design from UWB students are also conceptual, so we will need to do more research to improve the design. We were told to stop the research for mechanisms or devices that would aid the fallen person to sit back up as it was no longer needed.
Week 4 : Raya holiday also fell on this monday. So, without much to go on, this week we continued our research and finalised the personas. This week since the personas are finalized, we realize we would need to do semi structured interviews. The interviews questions itself are ready but based on the feedback, it might seem too complex or too rigid for the elderly.
Week 5 : We were to do a presentation that compiles what we have done (research and personas), and what we are planning to do (Future primary research and branding plans) to the chosen candidate of the choices from UWB students that had previously attended. I compiled a lot of it together with the rest to the ppt. Me, Abigail and Eva presented in the zoom meeting and discussed with Adam on the features of his products.
Week 6 : Conducted an interview in the old folks home, turns out it was a dementia care centre. The head director is a doctor that has been practising there for years, also the head in another care centre. The interview went really well and had a couple useful insights and we learnt new patterns of living within the dementia community. We also interviewed another person in the care centre and gained more knowledge that would be useful to use in the future in regards to the products and branding.
Week 7 : Briefed on the interviews we did, Sir Mike said we need to do more interviews of people that fit into our persona. Eva created google form for the old people to fill in to garner more responses. I filled one based on my mom’s experience after taking after my grandmother. Abigail also added her grandmother and Eva interviewed 2 other students that talks about their grandparents (they fit into the personas).
Week 8 : From the art direction Clay finalised, Abigail and I had discussed about what we should put as content in the website and the app. Concluded there are several important things to highlight. We also took some inspiration and references from existing websites and apps. All compiled in miro.
Week 9 : Sir Mike added inputs to the logo, said we need to simplify it. Started building the wireframes for the Microsite. Turns out there is more content that we can input to the website.
Week 10 : Holiday. Nevertheless, I still continued with the website, started on the app design. Had several references over but went through the main features of the app.
Week 11 : Consultation had us thinking over the fact that what if the app can track more than 2 people at the same time. Afterwards, sir also asked if the authorities that will be alerted are local authorities (confirm yes). Me and Abigail continue again with the app.
Week 12 : Finished the prototype for the App. Ready to be user tested.
Week 13 : Not much progression before class, no progression either during class because I had to prioritise other modules. After the class and working on other modules, I started to work on website design. Had some help from Eva as well. Finished it right before the next class.
Week 14 : A lot of feedback happened this week. Needed to change a lot of the app interfaces suddenly. Also got feedback from user testing (minor things). Flow is good though so we do not need to change anything from that. Finishing and finalising everything. Not much change to the website itself. I finalised a lot of the app that had to be fixed, leaving a little bit for Abigail to do.
Week 15 : Again, finalising everything and finishing up reports and gantt charts. Will be making presentation slides. Finished peer review too.
REFLECTION
Week 1 : Before the class, I was already contacted by several people regarding groups from the previous Monday class. I immediately joined the group where Evaleez is because I know her and have worked with her and I know she does her work on time and really really well, she is also a great leader. So that's how I got into class knowing I already had a group beforehand. Sir even gave a green light about the group formation.
Week 2 : So tell me the reason why we all got seperated when in week 1 it was already final? They even made a spreadsheet with our former group. But now we have to divide by 3. It took quite some time and to be selfless and humble to actually accept the member that the rest of the groups didnt want to be group with. But alas, we just have to continue with our research and personas. The research we did was also deemed not enough since we did not research the "mechanism to help the fallen person to get up" part.
Week 3 : Well, according to UWB they never discussed that they needed that mechanism. As far as they've known, they're only doing the alert devices. All in all, that part of our research (yes, we did research it after feedback session) went to waste. It was fun though, seeing the other students from another side of the world. Our group went with Adam as our partner as it seems that his idea is pretty solid and our group agreed he looks and sounds friendly enough.
Week 4 : Me and Abigail finalized the personas we created after sir said that we need to make them really different from each other. We were also told we're going to do the presentation this time to the chosen UWB student.
Week 5 : Presentation time! Me, Eva and Abigail did the slides and presented (do not ask where the rest of the group team members are bcs I honestly do not know either). I thought Adam was a nice person and would probably get along well with the guy.
Week 6 : So we went to the Vida Care Centre, the old folks home that specializes care for dementia patients. The Head Director was very very nice and seems very enthusiastic about the product, I was unsure how to go when he actually asked if he can use the product. He just seems like a person who wants to help, like a true doctor that has taken an oath to serve the people. During this interview too, I think I helped Eva out by taking turns talking although she's the one who talked most of the time. I try to be as involved as I can during this. Lots of insights gain basically.
Week 7 : Welp, so we needed to do more interviews. Thankfully Eva can actually put her foot down and get more people to interview with in class. Abi also managed to get another old person to interview. I also had asked my own mother to do the interview since she took care of my grandmother.
Week 8 : Since research part is done, we can finally start doing the app. So me and Abigail started compiling references of what we want to do, the content and what kind of features we want to make.
This part is fun.
This part is fun.
Week 9 : We built the app and microsite. I was kinda iffy about the website as I am not as great at those as I'd like to be but alas I still try my best.
Week 10 : SOOOOO in this week we have shown sir about the app. Making the app itself was not too challenging as I was already quite used to it. Sir did not really say anything apart from the fonts or other small details that we haven't really polished yet since it is still a 'progression'.
Week 11 : No feedbacks other than adding a feature and finalizing some features over the app from Sir Mike. Basically it was going well, me and Abigail also continued again with the app.
Week 12 : App prototype was considered done as the main contents are already done (afaik there was only onboarding part left, but that should be done after we finish the final designs). Showed sir and said there was no problem either.
Week 13 : I did not go to class, had to prioritize other modules for the time being. After submission of the other modules, I started working on the website again with the help of both Abigail and Eva ofcourse.
Week 14 : Again, tell me why the app's overall interface is being criticized again. I get it we want it to look the best it can but why wait so many weeks. This week we were all agitated and frustrated because it's the end of semester so adding more stuff that could have been done weeks ago was not really helping the situation. Nevertheless I still fix it, so there's that.
Week 15 : Ah finally the last week, there's only a little to be finalized and I am just glad that even if this course is draining the life out of me, I can still finish it alongside the helps of Abigail and Eva. I just wish things were clearer since the beginning, like do we need to a final presentation? that also made me panicked a little bit. Also, another thing that was challenging for us is the UWB student just straight up ghosted us, so any changes to the watch we had to do ourselves. Actually, Eva did all that.
I am just glad if there's one thing I will be grateful for is for both Eva and Abi, this module has brought us closer and I understand how to work in a group better and also know what we should NOT do in a group work ya (like ghosting people, or just really passive in groupworks). I'm also glad this module is done.
