TASK

Pick one free online infographic tool and re-design one poorly constructed infographic poster through your own experimentation with the selected tool. Record the process into the your blog and present the redesigned infographics with before and after comparison and their personal rating + review of the online tool for :
  • Difficulty, intuitiveness
  • Usefulness
  • Design templates, choices
I scoured the internet, specifically Canva for poorly constructed poster, surprisingly I found little to none. They do have a bunch of collections for infographic templates, so after some time I found one.

Figure 1.1 The poster I chose

Initially I already liked it, the color palette is earth tones and very 'batik' like. A couple of notes I could take that could be improved is, apart from the very nice illustrations, it is not eye catching enough. I feel like it's too empty and too full at the same time, and the flow of reading for me is there, but still could be better. After some thoughts, I try to create a flow of reading by making them roll on one single line.

For the finishing touches, I searched for some graphics available on Canva and added some more batik like illustrations. I deleted some illustration that in my eyes are not that relevant, and added more batik structures. I also change the subheading of each section a little bit without removing the meaning.

On Canva,
I love it, they actually have rulers and they snap to grids/aligns themselves to other graphics available on the same page, this makes working on the poster easier and assure you that you can actually make it neat. They have enough tools that won't make you google to find a tutorial about it, yet complex enough to be able to do some pretty advance stuff. They also have an illustration search engine which I think is pretty neat. They have some pretty awesome futures too, like the autosave swatches of the document so you do not need to re pick colors again and again (or create specific swatches). Other than this, they also have lots and lots of templates, so it is both definitely easy to use and beginner friendly.

Here is the final product, before and after.
